Question 1:

Look at the graph below. In 25 seconds, please speak into the microphone and describe in detail what the graph is showing. You will have 40 seconds to give your response.

Suggested Answer:

The pie chart shows the world energy consumption by source in 2012. It can be seen that 87% of the energy requirement is being met from non-renewable and polluting fossil fuels – coal, oil and natural gas. Only 4% requirement is being met from nuclear energy. Only 9% requirement is being met from renewable sources, including 7% from hydro-energy. Overall, it appears that it is the non-hydro renewable sources that have the greatest scope.

Question 2:

Look at the graph below. In 25 seconds, please speak into the microphone and describe in detail what the graph is showing. You will have 40 seconds to give your response.

Suggested Answer:

The two pie charts give a picture of fatalities caused due to accidents. One pie chart gives an analysis of accidents, indicating the severity thereof. The other offers analysis of fatalities that occurred in 29% of the accidents as per the first pie chart. Out of all the accidents, no injury was reported in 39% of the cases and minor injury was reported in 10% cases. On the other hand, 22% were serious enough to need hospitalisation and 29% turned out to be fatal. 63% of the fatalities occurred due to head injuries. Presumably, these would have involved motor cyclists without head protection. 21% deaths were due to damage to internal organs. The 9% that reported death due to loss of blood might indicate delay in administering first aid and/or hospitalisation.

Question 3:

Look at the graph below. In 25 seconds, please speak into the microphone and describe in detail what the graph is showing. You will have 40 seconds to give your response.

Suggested Answer:

The bar chart represents seventeen most populated countries of the world. India and China are by far the most populated countries. Though precise figures are not provided, except for Bangladesh, from the comparative height of the bars we can make out that India and China have a population of over one billion each. On the other hand, countries like Vietnam, Ethiopia, Egypt, Germany and Turkey appear to have populations below 100 million. Overall it appears that two countries, China and India, constitute a great proportion of the world population.

Question 4:

Look at the graph below. In 25 seconds, please speak into the microphone and describe in detail what the graph is showing. You will have 40 seconds to give your response.

Demand and Production statistics of 5 T.V. companies

Suggested Answer:

The bar graph depicts demand and production statistics in respect of 5 TV manufacturing companies, A, B, C, D and E. The demand is represented by diagonally marked bars, whereas the production is represented by laterally marked bars. It appears the product of three companies, A, C and E is in high demand, which outstrips their respective production. In fact, the demand for the product of company C is two and a half times its production, and that of Company A is double its production. On the other hand, companies B and D are finding it difficult to sell their product, as indicated by their respective plots.

Question 5:

Look at the picture below. In 25 seconds, please speak into the microphone and describe in detail what the picture is showing. You will have 40 seconds to give your response.

Suggested Answer:

The picture depicts a mobile phone in dormant mode propped up against pebbles, probably at the sea shore. The pebbles appear to have been gathered specifically for the purpose because there are not many seen in the rest of the area. Coarse sandy gravel is seen all around. Specks of straw and some dead insects also lie around. There are footmarks in the gravel. Combined with the mobile phone, the footmarks give the impression of a heavily visited seashore, or one near a settlement like a town or city.

Question 6:

Look at the picture below. In 25 seconds, please speak into the microphone and describe in detail what the picture is showing. You will have 40 seconds to give your response.

Suggested Answer:

The picture depicts the travelling New York Public Library. The library seems to have been mounted on a bus. The driver can be seen at the steering. Books are on open display, neatly stacked in shelves. A large number of children and a few women are gathered around the travelling library. Since most of the children have school bags in their hands, it appears the bus has been parked at or near a school premises for the benefit of school children, and the women are the teachers who are trying to help the students take their pick. An additional prop, seen at the left side of the screen, appears to have been used to raise the lofts of the bookshelves.
